Unique, rare weavings from the Ottoman Empire in Europe primarily in today's Albania
Kilims in Albania are generally called ‘qylims’ and carpets ‘sixhade’. Both words are borrowed from the Turkish language as what is now Albania was part of the former Ottoman Empire in Europe. While these words do not capture the complexity of the types of weavings found in Albania and the region, they are helpful for collectors. Generally speaking, kilims are carpets with no pile or raised yarn, while carpets have pile. We have broken our collection into several categories so that the customer can more easily understand the types of carpets by region, color, and type.
