78- Balkans

Description: This is a celebrated pattern, Pileta and style from the Northwest Bulgaria, specifically Chiprotsky, where so many designs originated for most of the Balkans. This kilim is quite complex. The whole is outlined with a thin red border, following by a black, serrated strip long the long sides and a thinner black band on the shorter. A white border, also surrounded on the inner side with a black frame, contains 48 'turtle' designs, separated from each other by the same design found in the center of each turtle. The border is a mirror image of itself on the long sides, but also the short sides, a great achievement. The central red field contains 4 Trees of Life, complete with 49 nesting birds amongs flowering, leafy branches.
