This kilim comes from the Korce region and consists of a series of symmetrically arranged wreaths. The entire kilim is enclosed in a teal border followed by a deep red, serrated line that continues into the central field. On that central field of red are 12 large wreaths outlined in orange and 6 wreaths outlined in teal. There are also ten half-wreaths outlined in teal on the borders and 4 quarter-wreaths of the same pattern and color scheme in the corners. The orange-outlined wreaths contain a rich variety of colors which are, from the inside out: blue, red, pink, brown, teal, red, brown, pink, red, white indigo, light green, orange, and teal. The teal-outlined wreaths use, from the inside out: cream, brown, teal, brown, orange, white, brown, white, indigo, orange, red, green, teal, and white. The center of each wreath contains a stylized bird form found in NW Bulgarian kilim group which dominates the western Balkans in terms of motifs. This spectacular piece would have been displayed only for special occasions and is in good condition considering its age and massive proportions. This piece might benefit from professional stretching, but is ready for immediate use.
