This is not a kilim, but a cross-stictched piece made of hand-dyed yarn and comes from a village near Korce. In south Albania, cross-stiched pieces are placed before doorways, even today. This piece would have been placed in front of a large door for special events. Albanians do not wear shoes inside houses, so it has seen relatively little wear considering its age. It is backed with its original fabric and could use professional cleaning and some conservation. The pattern resembles a kilim pattern found on kilim number 144 in our collection with flowing lines of and stylized leaf-forms supporting multicolored, and multisized, flowers. This is an absolutely unique piece.
