Flokija Patterned
Mountains to the west of Korçe
early 20th century
This flokija carpet was used only for visiting guests to cover the floor where it was sat and slept upon and could also be used as a blanket. The pattern is similar to the wreaths pattern found in local kilims which are usually a series of diamond or rhombus shapes that employ bands of different colors to great effect. These wreaths are stylized and come in two forms: black/blue/white or white/blue/black, depending on your perspective. It is made in four panels, expertly stictched together. There is some pile missing from the front, barely noticeable. The reverse has been partially felted.
