This kilim likely originates from the Sandjak region of today's Serbia, but may have come from Kosovo or neighboring Montenegro, all regions with historic Albanian populations. The central field contains four trees of life in different shades of indigo upon which are 24 flowers each in two shades of indigo and pale yellow. The field is surrounded by a white band, zigzagging on the long sides. A black frame covered in NW Bulgarian motifs of stylized birds in pink, lilac, and yellow. This black band is surrounded by the same white line previously mentioned. The entire kilim is contained within a red edge. There are small signs of wear and abrash appears throughout as the result of hand-dyeing. The colors may all be from natural dyes.
