A very heavy, large kilim from north central Albania made on a vertical loom and intended for a huge room in a prosperous household. This pattern derives from old NW Bulgarian designs from the 18th and early 19th centuriesA central red field containing 64 flowering trees with fruit is surrounded a deep border of indigo with abrash with 80 flowering trees with fruit in two lines. All is enclosed by a red border on which there is a stylized vine. One corner shows a barely noticeable skillful, historic repair with slightly mismatched colors. One side is faded and not shown. The flowering tree with fruit is a design found in kilims from the western parts of the Ottoman Empire in Europe.
