This kilim is inspired by 19th century kilims from today's Serbia and Bulgaria. The red central area contains 104 'bombs' which are separated by 84 'devil's knees'. The entire field is bordered by 84 fragments of 'devil's knees'. A 'queen's sleeve' border encases the red field, and is itself surrounded by a a white border with 38 'tortoise' shapes. The tortoises on the long sides of the border alternative with Christian, probably Catholic, crosses, indicating a northern Albanian origin as well as a pre-communist date for this piece. The narrow black band that surrounds the whole is serrated on the long edges.
