This Prizren region carpet (sixhade) was made to commemorate a wedding for 1 August 1973. Name of maker inscribed as 'Hace P' who was probably a bride. She would have made at least 3 similar pieces, presenting them as gifts to her husband's family. The carpet is multifunctional: sitting and sleeping mat for guests and a Muslim prayer carpet, also probably for guest use. The first deep border of triangles only encloses three sides, further indicating its intended partial use as a prayer carpet. The triangles in the border contain contrasting rectangles and squares. The next border fully encloses the central region and is composed of interlocking birdlike, repeating forms, some of which have additional geometric decoration. The birdlike forms are laid out in three plaited strands, a very complex feat, demonstrating the bride's weaving skill. The central rectangle is a collection of balanced geometric forms including rectangles, triangles, and an octagon. Sprinkled throughout symetrically are floral and bird forms. In the central octagon is the maker's name and a date. The outer fringe was added after completion and is composed of 8 different colors, alternating attractively, placed for maximum visual impact. Like all Prizreni weavings, the weaver utlized as many bright colors as possible for the most startling visual effect.
